I gotta agree with you on Pantera...there's A LOT of great thrash bands out there but those dudes tipped the scales when they hit the scene! I remember when CFH came out; all of us guitar players were doing everything and anything to get Dimes sound! That heavily compressed, balls of steel bottom end sound he had going on is fucking legendary!! I remember Phil saying "we are the undisputed kings of heavy metal"...I have to whole heartedly agree!! Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now

I'd agree with Led Zeppelin being the best, greatest, ever. They were described in a documentary once as the heaviest folk band the guy had ever heard.

They are in the news today for stealing Stairway to Heaven:

'In a decision on Friday, US District Judge Gary Klausner in Los Angeles said the song and the 1967 instrumental Taurus by the band Spirit were similar enough to let a jury decide whether Plant and Page were liable for copyright infringement.

A trial is scheduled for May 10.'

RIP Keith Emerson of ELP fame, he topped himself recently. Right hand trouble so he couldn't play as he could.
