Mine is a 10ga. My piercer recommended no smaller than this size. Could create a scissor effect if too small. Had mine done in March, took about 4-5 weeks to completely heal. Ray10754 is very informative in his comments. Sea salts soakings, anti bacterial soap, and urinating should prevent any infections too. Try to find a quality and reputable piercer, one that you feel comfortable with. Mine turned out to be a woman piercer, too. I have no regrets now, wished I had done it sooner. Good luck, should you decide to do it.

I completely agree with piercedknob.
I do have a foreskin as well and wear a PA for more 7 years. never had any trouble. surgical steel is what I started out with, now I also wear titanium but there's hardly any difference....
go ahead and get yourself a PA, you will love it.

any foreign material in to urethra is extremely dangerous. PA is the most painful method & takes too much time to heal. During those period it may occour **** flow through urine. there may be also infection. So before doing it , think twice & consult the specialist.

Hello Dutchman,
I would like to voice my opinoin on this matter if I may!
First I would like to say if you decide to get a piercing,Please do your reserch other on here (some people seen to think they know everything about everything )
Ok now to the matter of the subject posted, First off The P/A piercing (IS THE LEAST PAINFULL AND TAKES THE LEAST AMOUNT OF TIME TO HEAL!!!!)Like with any piercing there are concerns, although if you do as told by your piercer you will experiance no ill effects at all!!! Urin is the best thing for the P/A piercing, Due to the fact it is completly strile and acts as a cleansing tool.
When getting ANY piercing there is a small amout of after care that is your responcibility, keeping it Clean and doing the needed sea salt soaks is very important, at least 3 times a day if not more.If you do as expected you will have minamal chance of infection!!!
As for size, My advise would be starting with a 10gage (2.5 mm) that is what my piercer recomended for me each piercer has there own choices.
Most definatly use ONLY a good quality Sergical Stainles Steel. the reason for this is It is the same material DR's use for pins they insert for broken Bones and they have no Nickle in them, (Nickle is the material that people are alergic to)You can use any other material AFTER the healing period, but I would suggest staying with sergical s/s.
I have had my P/A and several other piercing for many years, and have NEVER had any issues what so ever with any of them.
I am not a professional piercer but have done extencive reserch on the topic and feel confident that what I say is factual.
If you would lke any other information Please P/M me and I can forward to you some links for you to read.
Again I would like to advise you to do your own reserch and above all Make your decision only after you have done so,one suggestion I could give you ,would be to locate a certified piercer in your area and set a time to go in and talk with him,ANY good piercer would be happy to discuss all the por's and con" of piercing with you.
I wish you luck in your serch and hope that in the event you do decide to get one you keep us posted on your progress.

100% in agreement with you.I did my own piercing after much research and I did find the PA is the less painful to do and that it heals much faster then other piercing. But, one has to say that to have a Pa you are creating another hole and that makes urinating a bit messy at times.
And to Dutchman if you don't like it you can always take off and the hole will close. I don't keep mine on all the time I do take off as I don't want a big gaping hole.

Pa43, Thank you for your post here on this topic,It is nice to hear from someone that knows what they are talking about. When I had mine done, I had it done by a professional, he pierced me with a 10 ga cbb, I since have done all my up sizing my self and am at my max now 0 ga. I agree with you as to urinating cam be messy, but I have found that the larger I went the less problem it is, seems that the larger ring fits a lot tighter than the smaller ga dose,I can stand with the best of them and urinate with out spraying !
By #187007 at 21,Dec,11 23:35
ray, I agree with you about larger gauge that will fit tighter, but then again one have to be careful as to what size to have, mainly the size of your head, i would'nt go past a 4 gauge.

Hornydick is NOT entirely true. a PA piercing is NOT extremely dangerous if done by a professional piercer and as long as proper aftercare is taken. I have had a PA for 9 years and NEVER had an infection. Just make sure that you find a reputable piercer. Try looking on the Association of Professional Piercers website ( www dot safepiercing dot org ), they have a locate your nearest piercer page.
I also have a foreskin and that has not caused any problems either. As for size and material, I would start with at least a 2mm thickcness ring made from surgical steel.
