The link I posted, which corresponded back to MOONLIGHT as a word for the day, was of The Beatles who were featured on the Morecambe and Wise show. I suspect that they are or were quite well known in the UK.

The Beatles? I've never heard of them. Who are they?
However, Morcambe and Wise were the UK's finest comedy duo and I still love watching them even after seeing everything by them a multitude of times, Bella
Morecambe and Wise were possibly the greatest comedians of their time at their peak. Their Christmas TV specials received achieved almost unprecedented viewing figures. Sadly their foray into the US did not go well. The Beatles were slightly more successful when they visited the US of course.
Morecambe and Wise were very good and very popular at one time although I actually preferred The Two Ronnies. Andre guested on M & W's 1971 Christmas show and Eric kept calling him "Mr. Preview". Lots of top stars of the day were only too keen to be guests on the show and have the pee taken out of them, e.g. Dame Flora Robson, Vanessa Redgrave, Glenda Jackson, Sir Ralph Richardson, Sir Alec Guinness etc. I think they wanted to show the public what "jolly good sports" they are - or were

"I was playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order"
In the show with Vanessa Redgrave as guest, it was a biblical sketch. As Eric walked into the room, Vanessa said: "have you got the scrolls?" to which Eric replied: "No, I always walk like this."!!!

Hahaha yeah, I remember that sketch too. Another of my favourite gags of Eric's is:
"I always take my wife morning tea in my pyjamas. Is she grateful? No! She says she'd rather have it in a cup."
However in the UK at least for people of my generation This is how we rmember him so very fondly.
