Hermaphrodites? Fact or Fiction???

Hermaphrodite people exist. Rarely. The politically correct term nowadays is intersex. There is a good 2007 film from Argentina, called XXX, about this situation. I saw the film back then and was very moved/ impressed. As excerpt from the film is here:

As far as I understand, there are various types of intersex persons. The term hermaphrodite is a combination of the words Hermes and Aphrodite (Hermes=Mercury, Aphrodite=Venus).

Hermaphroditus, in Greek mythology, was the son of the godess Aphrodite and the god Hermes. He was born a boy and was incredibly handsome. It's hemaphroditos (-os, not -us, the latter is Latin) = ερμαφρόδιτος

That depends on which source you check. I have seen it both ways.

I know. Both are correct, but in different languages. The -os is Greek. The -us is Latin. The word is originally Greek.

More to the point, of course, the term is out of use now because there seem to be all kinds of intersex persons. The intersex condition is rare but it exists.

Quite common in some animals, but considered a mutation in some. It's a sign of pollution in river fish. In humans it's EXTREMELY rare because male and female sexual organs develop from the same embryonic structure and it not usually possible to develop into TWO different sets of parts.......

....For example, the sex glands either become ovaries or descend to become testes,....to have both the individual would have had to start out with four sex glands as an embryo and they would have to nicely split in development into BOTH male and female,..which in turn is controlled by x and y chromosones being equal......which does not happen.

Also, we tend to think of 'male' or 'female' being just a singular state, however the sexual organs are made up of complete sets of components both internal and external so a true human hermaphrodite would have to have TWO perfect sets of everything, that developed normally, from ONE set of originals...it does'nt happen.....

....It IS possible for humans to be 'epicine',...to have characteristics and even features of both sexes but most are either male or female in essence such as 'chicks with dicks' who are males with secondary female characteristics.
