For me it's when you stop looking attractive to yourself, since the act of sex is just as much physical as it is psychologic. From the moment you look at yourself in the mirror and think "I'm not feeling good about how i look", that's when you should either do something about it, or stop it.

People are mostly unique in the sense that there's always someone who likes what you may find utterly disgusting, so even if you look like complete shit by popular standards, you can find someone (nowadays, easier with the internet) that enjoys your "shittyness", so partner preference really comes to either effort or luck, and doesn't affect it too much.

Anyway, that's my two cents, i just like to write.
