A neutron walked into a bar and asked "How much for a beer?" The barman said for you, no charge."

Love his SOH too. I bought a Brief History of Time in 88, when it was first published.

They sent Tombaughs remains and Scottys into space. He should have his ashes in orbit or something.

How do you organise a party in space?

You plan it (Planet) Sorry.
By #550462 at 19,Mar,18 02:13
I don't fancy a party in space, there wouldn't be any atmosphere.

I don't believe in coincidental, but he died on Albert Einstein's birthday and Pi Day.

Pi? What is pi?
By BearBen_SYD at 14,Mar,18 17:22 other posts of BearBen_SYD
International Pi Day The number π is a mathematical constant. Originally defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, it now has various equivalent definitions and appears in many formulas in all areas of mathematics and physics (old school 22/7=3.141592
By leopoldij at 14,Mar,18 18:09 other posts of leopoldij
Oh Yes. But what does 14 of March have to do with π?
By #482237 at 14,Mar,18 18:26
common mistake,,,it was the day the bakery made pies,,, some physicist called it pie day and everyone thought he was talking about diameters and circumferences in the cosmos

Oh?
By #485312 at 15,Mar,18 07:29
americans do every thing backwards, they write the date as month, day and year, instead day month and year, so pi day is the date, 3.14, same as starwars day is may the 4th, *lix*

right.

I Googled & got this:

"Pi Day is celebrated every year March 14 as the first three digits of pi are three, one and four, representing the date. This day was officially recognized by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2009 to help the country "reinforce mathematics and science education for all students in order to better prepare our **** for the future and in order to compete in a 21st Century economy."

It is believed earliest known official celebration of Pi Day was organized by American physicist Larry Shaw in 1988 at the San Francisco Exploratorium.

Pi, which represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, is an important part of the foundation of mathematics. The ancient Babylonians calculated pi roughly 4,000 years ago."

seem it's another US contrivance

A very sad day and the loss of one of the greatest minds of our time.

By #435701 at 14,Mar,18 19:08
Einstein and Stephen Hawking will be forever joined in history in their quest to understand the Universe and our place in it...Neener, neener as Hawking once said to Sheldon in his cool computer voice, 50+ years after he was supposed to be long since dead...So sad...that such intelligence does not grace ANYBODY in power on this planet today. Or EVER in it's past history...WHY THE HELL IS THAT???!!!...I know why...maybe you do too...If you don't, I'll tell you...Because people in power are ONLY interested in themselves. Only seeing the infinitesimally tiny orb they inhabit as being so incredibly and unimaginably BIG that their infinitesimally tiny minds cannot comprehend things like Global Warming, gigantic gyres in the Pacific Ocean full of man made garbage, fishing the ENTIRE planet of it's fish, killing ALL the big game in Africa, either thru Trophy hunting or poaching...it's nothing to be concerned about to those of infinitesimally tiny minds. After all, Earth is so big it can support any number of 'US' doing whatever we want as far as killing and eating lower life forms! To hell with contraception because ALL humans are valuable! Simply because...the NEXT birth could produce another Stephen Hawking or Albert Einstein. No matter that the OVERWHELMING population of humans amount to nothing beyond living paycheck to paycheck. Or being 'Cannon Fodder' over Centuries of unchecked Dictatorial types that kill their citizens either outright or thru starvation...Or most likely. Thru War...After all, they have to maintain power at all costs...because they are 'special'...just like most of us think we are...

Rest in Peace. Thank You for hours of fascinating reading.

RIP STEPHEN HAWKING

"I don't have much positive to say about motor neuron disease. But it taught me not to pity myself, because others were worse off and to get on with what I still could do," Hawking told The New York Times.

Mr Hawking made most of us rethink our troubles. This little man with his wasted body due to his ALS was truly A GIANT OF A MAN. A thousand year man. He will be missed for a lot more than his science contributions. His humanity was without equal. RIP

RIP Professor Stephen Hawking

Said

On death: ‘I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I’m not afraid of death, but I’m in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first’ – Interview in The Guardian, May 2011.
