I can't read Sherryann's mind, but I think her post goes beyond job and income. No one gives a shit about their job anymore. Failure and ineptitude are just normal now.
But why wouldn't 'we' expect service and quality?
I expect a very high level of service and quality and if I don't get it, I take my business elsewhere, often permanently.
I just expect the company to hire and train employees to a good standard
and then pay them enough to retain those employees and keep them motivated.
If they pay for the bottom of the barrel, you get bottom of the barrel service.
Yes, it's always managements fault. They get paid millions and they're not even responsible for how the customers are treated?
It had to do with the skill level of help that the restaurant in crisis paid their employees. Obviously, if the restaurant paid more, it could attract a better chef. A better chef is more likely to produce better food. Better food would attract clientele. More clientele means more money money, thereby the restaurant wouldn't be hemorrhaging cash....
Strange how the biggest fans of capitalism don't understand it.
My dad told me, that "Integrity" is doing what is RIGHT, even when nobody is watching!
Both taught me strong work ethics, and values, but, sadly these are lost, today!
So many today just CHEAT, and do nothing but the BARE MINIMUM, to stay employed, as so many companies are in such DIRE NEED of workers, they tolerate losers, and FUCK-UPs!!
By the way, I can hardly remember getting actual bad service. The only thing I can think off, is last time we went to McDonald's. That location was just starting up and had some problems hiring and training staff. They forgot something, we asked nicely, they were courteous and we got an extra box of nuggets for free. That is the company understanding they have staff problems, but still satisfying the customer.
So, is it really that bad, or might it be your own attitude?
that employee should be fired for being so smart ass.
No ice,simple.
It cost money to make ice,it's not like it is saving the business a lot of money to replace ice with chemical of choice..
People get orders wrong.
Though complaining about an order being wrong and then getting mad about someone clarifying what type of milk you want so they don't get it wrong seems to be self-defeating.
There is not much responsibility in a minimum wage job, that is why they don't pay what a pilot or engineer earns.
"yawnt friz wit dat" or "would you like fries with that sir?" don't take a brain surgeon to say or key punch.
Have a good day, and remember to look both ways when crossing the road.
Bye x
How is disrespect of and to the minimum wage worker any different of and to any person, in general?
And we should be nice to animals, too.
take pride in your work regardless of the task. It is noticed and it will give you a leg up in life if you try.On the other hand if you move from 1 dead end low paying job to another because the boss gets complaints about your quality of work, you will never get anywhere, nor should you.
Background and circumstance have a lot of sway.
Heck, "Death of a Salesmen" is a pretty famous play about how stupid the idea of the "American Dream" is.
First settlers were also Dutch, French, Spanish
Later there was also a big wave of Irish and Italians and smaller waves like from Belgium
So white Americans are not all from the UK
I can't see how it is any "better" or morally "ok" to be disrespectful to a high paid employee than a minimum wage 1.
Disrespect is just that, disrespect, rather it is to the dingbat that gives you a half empty coffee cup or the guy servicing your Land Rover or cutting your chest open to fix your heart valve.
What I despise about these "fast food" restaurants is I walk up to the cashier to order and I start to order and I get interrupted, " is this to go or eat here". and it leaves me thinking, I am in the middle of ordering my food, didn't they notice????? are they not paying attention?
And God forbid you hand them CASH,they have to make a couple extra key punches.
And when you do get reasonable service and you say, "thank you mam or sir, which ever applies, they get all huffy.
Gee people, you get paid a compliment, at least don't frown, we don't expect you to jump up and down and scream, just act normal.
Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.
Good luck if you get those students as employee.
Oh, Oklahoma does it as well: 'Students’ Religious Belief Protection Act'
Oklahoma bill would fine teachers $10k for teaching anything that contradicts religion:

There's your problem; everything in reality contradicts religion.
How does teaching history, like how our nation gained it's independence, contradicting religion?
IF schools were teaching what they were intended to teach when public education was first implemented, you would not have those issues.
.
Now you have a bunch of confused kids that don't know what they are or how they got here and what they are supposed to do besides look to ol Uncle joe for a handout.
hardly capable of filling your order.
You want teachers to teach them to do a trick, like little monkeys and that's it.
If you think your country can compete against the rest of the world by just breeding obedient factory workers, you are mistaken.
You need to stimulate brains if you want them to have logic, insight, creativity, inspiration, imagination, intuition, etc. You won't stimulate that when you limit kids
to what is allowed under religious suppression.
You don't like or understand science, but your country needs it.
And that means that children are not just allowed to think, but FORCED TO THINK
about any subject. Because their ignorant parents are keeping them down.
As a example, I was a very skinny, very wimpy kid. When my family fell apart and I left alone at 15 all week to go to school and etc, all we had was a push lawnmower that stayed broke most of the time. I got tired of pushing that sumbitch. So my dad, stimulated my brain by helping me get a junk riding mower. That pushing shit went out the window and I proceeded to mowing yards with that lawnmower. Both the trades I learned in school in Agmechanics class and my dad helping me get the first machine and letting me use his tools, started me out in what has become a God send for me as it is how I make ends meet to this day. Mowing grass for pay since disability does not cut the mustard and I can do it sitting.
Parents and teachers are supposed to influence the child.
Schools are not using religion to teach How to handle your money ,how the country came about, how things work, and etc.
I don't see how you get teaching kids "tricks" and how to be factory workers out of that. strange indeed.
Better send the kids to the salt mines then, because your education system is now completely useless.
2 plus 2 equals 5 and it would be "correct" because of how you came to that conclusion? eh, nuts, just plain nuts.
"What is the difference between regular math and Common Core math?
Common Core Math is based on concepts and skills that a student must apply in order to solve real-world math problems. ... Traditional math is about getting the correct answer, whereas Common Core math requires students to demonstrate their deeper knowledge and ability on how they arrived to the correct answer"
I guess considering you are liberal you might understand that, but unless 2 plus 2 is 4,it aint correct regardless of how you did it,if it was a experiment or a mechanical issue you would have a failure.
many states have dropped it such as the 1 I live ,

You aren't going to give them credit for at least having a job and trying to contribute/earn their keep?
Aren't you usually in the "get a damn job, you lazy bastard" camp?

You know, now that I have had time to think about it,my 12 pound and 20 pound hammers do sit around alot not doing anything!
He said he had went to the local bojangles the day before and when they ask him for his order he just told them to put 5 dollars worth of something in a bag and hand it to him.
The speaker said, "we can't do that". He just told them that it seemed they could because the last 3 times he had went thru his order was WRONG and was about 5 bucks!,
Just as been mentioned, of course mistakes happen. BUT constantly?? Really? I make a effort on drive thru mistakes if I don't catch till I get home, to call and let them know they messed up. and I have been given a number to put on the receipt to take back and get a credit before as well. IF you don't complain, or politely inform someone of a problem, it will never be solved.
Sorry to hear that you had a tough/frustrating time at the coffee shop.
While I agree that there seems to be a lot more free-floating "dumb" in the world these days, the sort of thing that you describe doesn't really bother me that much. Mistakes happen, people are all too stressed-out, and I always assume that folks in the service industry are doing the best that they can on any given day. (Heck, we ALL have off days once in a while).
Everyone is way too angry and stressed all the time about everything, and I always try to avoid adding to that over small things. Believe it or not, but I tend to lean toward kindness and understanding as much as I can in real life. That's one of the many lessons I've learned in my years as a teacher.
Life is tough for everyone; I don't want to be the guy who makes it even harder for them if it can be helped.
Also--though I believe you meant it as a compliment--it kinda bugs me when people refer to me as being of "superior intellect". I have never claimed to be such--I just am what I am (not in a Popeye way )--and it makes me uncomfortable that people say that about me. (I hope that didn't come off as me being harsh, because I honestly like and respect you!)
I hope your next coffee-run goes much better!
I also have the ability to recall that stuff fairly quickly.
I was just born that way.
I don't like to brag about it because it really isn't something that I worked hard to have, and it feels "snobbish" to talk about it.
It's like a guy who thinks that having a big dingus makes him better than anyone else, when genetics is what gave him that pecker and he did nothing to earn it himself.
Yes, people are smarter than people, but I've found anyone who refers to themselves of being of "superior intellect" are normally cold and bitter.
Don't ever stop being kind to others
