One of my all time favorite Country Western singers, Toby Keith, past away yesterday. He had a long list of CW hits in a career that started in the early 1990s. My favorites are I Love This Bar. Whiskey Girl and I Should Have Been a Cowboy. I’ll miss his rough look and great singing. RIP

I've loved his singing ever since he got started. Too many of the last people to sing country western music are dying these days. I'm glad I am getting old too so I won't see the actual death of it.

Me too

By phart at 08,Feb,24 17:38 other posts of phart
Agreed, there is few people actually singing and playing country nowadays, it is meant to cross over to other types to much really. I haven't turned on a fm radio or even my satellite radio to a modern "country station in several years now. Listen to the old stuff.
By CAT-2 at 08,Feb,24 22:42 other posts of CAT-2
Like Woody58 says, "If it don't twang or yodel it ain't country."

By tecsan at 09,Feb,24 07:48 other posts of tecsan
The modern crap is noise to the ears.

By wycowboy at 09,Feb,24 15:50 other posts of wycowboy
I'm the same way, luckily I live where country is king and there are a few stations playing older country music.

By tecsan at 09,Feb,24 07:49 other posts of tecsan
Honestly I think the old country will always be around. I may be wrong though, I can always hope.
By tb1 at 09,Feb,24 12:26 other posts of tb1
I think you’re right, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, etc will always endure
By CAT-2 at 09,Feb,24 14:24 other posts of CAT-2
I believe that too.

You named one of my favorites. I like both so guess.

The Bellamy Brothers, Hank Williams, Tennessee Ernie Ford, and Ray Price.

You back? Skittles has missed you. Sorry the sir is not appropriate.
By #681164 at 11,Feb,24 13:30
I'm back. Mind you, I'm like an '85 Chevy p/u. The body is all dinged up, the speed is "slow" and "slower", and it sounds like there where beans in the gas.
By tecsan at 13,Feb,24 08:31 other posts of tecsan
Hope not like an 85' FORD or Dodge or even one of those japanese pieces of crap.
By wycowboy at 13,Feb,24 19:58 other posts of wycowboy
My 84 Ford P/U sounds kind of odd/bad, but then, it's a diesel, lol. But there ain't nothing wrong with the radio!
By CAT-2 at 13,Feb,24 22:50 other posts of CAT-2
Sounds like Woody58. If I hear a noise in the car and ask him what should I do, he tells me to crank up the radio.
By tecsan at 14,Feb,24 06:34 other posts of tecsan
Great advice. A radio is important just for that reason.

unless someone steals my 8 Track collection I know the old stuff will be around here!
By tecsan at 10,Feb,24 07:41 other posts of tecsan
I wish I still had my 8 Tracks or even cassettes.
By tb1 at 10,Feb,24 09:46 other posts of tb1
I forgot to mention that currently Shania Twain, a Canadian, is the top selling country and western female artist of all time 🎊🎉
By tecsan at 10,Feb,24 10:10 other posts of tecsan
I like her but I'll get crazy here and say I also like Alanis Morisette.
By tb1 at 10,Feb,24 15:07 other posts of tb1
Kudos

Alanis 😜 She was a friends fav 26 years ago! It took this long for her to grow on me lol. Shout out to Kasey Chambers if you know her the song “The Captain” was written about and for the same said friend.

My favorite is Patsy Cline

By wycowboy at 10,Feb,24 16:49 other posts of wycowboy
I've got a pretty large 8 track collection as well
By tb1 at 10,Feb,24 18:36 other posts of tb1
The USB drive in my car is full. If I want to add anymore music, I would have to delete some. I can’t bring myself to do that. They were my favourites and still are, that is why they are on my USB. Marty Robbins’ Big Iron has been played over and over, if it was a record, it would be played out 😁😁😁
--------------------------------------- added after 2 minutes

Another favourite is Ringo, by Lorne Green of Bonanza fame, it’s been played hundreds of times too 😁😁
--------------------------------------- added after 71 hours

B.J. Thomas, Conway Twitter, Loretta Lynn …..the list goes on and on of great C & W singers
By CAT-2 at 17,Feb,24 16:10 other posts of CAT-2
Can’t you get a bigger USB and transfer the songs to that new one?
By tb1 at 17,Feb,24 17:54 other posts of tb1
Yes, I could but now that I’m an octogenarian, I’ve gotten too lazy to do so. I don’t play my music when my wife is riding in the car with me either so there’s not much of an incentive to do it either. When I was working and driving alone in the car, the speakers got exercised plenty
By CAT-2 at 17,Feb,24 18:32 other posts of CAT-2
Gotcha.
By tb1 at 18,Feb,24 03:04 other posts of tb1
I mentioned Shania Twain earlier, she’s not vintage C & W but I like her music so much and admire her greatly for what all she’s accomplished, she’s on my car music too
By CAT-2 at 18,Feb,24 03:44 other posts of CAT-2
She’s good.
By tb1 at 18,Feb,24 14:22 other posts of tb1
She’s bloody well is 😁😁

Sad indeed, reading about his life, he had struggles but he stayed true to his beliefs, will be missed. He might be pleased that we are, “Let’s Talk About Me.” My wife dislikes that song immensely, after all, it’s all about her right. 😁😁 His “I’m not as good as I once was” likely pertains to a bunch of us. He will be missed, RIP Toby.

I have four of his hits on a USB in my car and crank them up to listen to when I need an uplifting while driving. That’s when the wife is at home of course.
By #681164 at 08,Feb,24 16:24
I get it. My car “bounces” as I drive down the road.
By tb1 at 08,Feb,24 18:27 other posts of tb1
I’d rather my car bounces from the fucking I’m doing in the back seat 😁😁😁

I’m so sorry Cat. Getting older is good, well, it sure as hell beats the alternative! However, one of the legacies of that is to lose people we love and admire. Just enjoy his music and know he lives on!
By CAT-2 at 07,Feb,24 03:27 other posts of CAT-2
Thanks for that. I will always enjoy his music. We are born to die. It’s what we do in between that makes life “life”. When a loved person passes so young, we are shocked as it makes us take note of our tenuous hold on sweet life.

So true, but, Phart, new “good ones” will come. The world doesn’t end with one person passing.

It's really sad when a great singer leaves us and is still relatively young. my condolences
By CAT-2 at 07,Feb,24 03:30 other posts of CAT-2
I know. I say we keep him in our hearts. That, at least, will keep him with us in spirit and music.

Bummer such a great performer.

I agree.

By #699810 at 06,Feb,24 21:52
Yep,he’ll certainly be missed. Another “good” entertainer gone. Nothing personal meant but these so called entertainers in what used to be good country music are missing the mark musically and In there writing skills
By CAT-2 at 06,Feb,24 22:29 other posts of CAT-2
I agree. Today, it seems like, if a person can open his mouth and repeat some gibberish, he's a country singer. BTW, this is also true with other types of music too.

By buchanan at 06,Feb,24 13:13 other posts of buchanan
I am shocked. I didn't realize he was battling stomach cancer. He was just 62. A big country star.
By CAT-2 at 06,Feb,24 16:17 other posts of CAT-2
Yeah, sad. The Big C doesn’t discriminate.

By #681164 at 06,Feb,24 15:13
I liked him too.
