When you think of places to visit in the United States, do you ever consider Michigan? We have all 4 seasons, all very beautiful and so distinct. We are a peninsular state and surrounded by the 5 "Great Lakes", Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie and Lake Superior ( we were taught the acronym HOMES in school to make it easy to remember ). Who hasn't seen Kellogg brand cereal products on their breakfast table? Did you ever know that your cereal was made in Battle Creek, Michigan? There are many beautiful cities to visit such as Holland, the tulip capital of Michigan. Frankenmuth, Michigan's Little Bavaria, where Christmas is celebrated 365 days a year. Don't forget to visit Mackinac Island, so quaint, no automobiles allowed. To get from the lower peninsula to the upper peninsula, you will have to take the Mackinac Bridge. The Mackinac Bridge was opened in 1957 and until 1998, was the longest suspension bridge in the world, measuring 8,038 meters. Currently the Mackinac Bridge is the 3rd longest suspension bridge in the world however IS the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere. When you think of cosmopolitan cities I bet Detroit doesn't pop into your mind. Detroit, Michigan, the birthplace of the automobile, Motown and music in general! The metropolitan Detroit area is the birthplace and home for many famous people past and present; Edsel Ford, Taylor Lautner, Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell, Madonna, K ID Rock, Eminem and the list goes on.

I bet you didn't know that there are MANY sexy members on SYD/SYC that hail from Michigan. I have had an opportunity to message several Michigan members that I am aware of and I encourage them to step forward and let your presence be known. In this thread, I will mention 2 members that I am familiar with and that I have their personal approval to mention by name. One member is "Pure Michigan" he is 2nice /member.php?w=274357 and the other has family ties, ds86 /member.php?w=318295 ( so I claim him as one of ours ). If you don't already know these hot, hot members, take an opportunity to get to know them.

I am familiar with the term, tri county area, referring to Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties but what is "tri-cities"?

Are the roads any better up there than they were in 03? Sheesh about beat my truck apart on some of those so called major roads up there in Detroit.
By bella! at 24,Nov,20 05:10 other posts of bella!
Heck, no! Potholes and orange barrels, galore!

By #551147 at 24,Nov,20 21:51
Their roads couldn't possibly be as atrocious as Illinois.

In Illinois, their idea of making a shitty road better, is by posting a sign letting you know the next xx amount of miles are "rough pavement". I'm not kidding either... 😠
By phart at 24,Nov,20 23:11 other posts of phart
I hit 1 pot hole in Detroit that when my camper hit it,it came off the road enough I could see the friggen car BEHIND ME.
By #551147 at 24,Nov,20 23:13
LMAO

Oh yeah, on my way up to the tri-city area of Illinois, we hit a pothole so big it blew one of the tires on a friggin rental car.

Alas I've never been to America but have always wanted to and Michigan would be on my list to see one of the Great Lakes. I would also love to go to Lubbock in Texas to visit the birthplace of my musical hero Buddy Holly and visit his grave to pay my respects.

I used to live in Michigan years ago and loved it. I am still remembering the good times I had all year around
The weekends I spent up north in the thumb.
Used do visit Cobo Hall, the Automobil Show, went to Frankenmuth, which was founded by Germans from Heilsbronn, Germany, where I live close by now.
By bella! at 23,Nov,20 19:48 other posts of bella!
Thank you for affirming that Michigan is a beautiful state with many beautiful cities/areas.

Frankenmuth was settled by German people, they were from Heilsbronn, Germany. Thank you for that piece of history!

Wow, what a great Ambassador! only registered users can see external links

North America's largest cross-border conurbation.

A piece of trivia, if you want to go to Canada from Detroit across the Ambassador Bridge, you head south!

And... only one of the Great Lakes is entirely within one country, Lake Michigan. I remember HOMES too, I was born near Niagara Falls in a city on Lake Ontario.

Because of the political situation in your state where your repuglican party is beating up on the working man, I will never set foot in your state nor will I purchase any item made there. You people are crazy.

Thanks for your vague comment. What city needs help? Many cities make up any state and although you have not revealed where you are from, I would venture to say there could be issues with your city, your state as well.

I live near Flint Michigan, and although she's experiencing some bad times: Highest unemployment and murder rate in the country per capita. It had it's heady days as the first successful sit-down strike and the founder of the labor unions. Buick was founded here. And a major contributor of tanks to the WWII effort.

Flint, Michigan is a tough town made up of survivors. I love my City and State....Douglas.

One more thing I would like to add for all of those who enjoy activities outdoors is that Michigan is home to hundreds of inland lakes, many of which the state has restricted to have maintained as public park areas (Metro Parks) that people can visit to view their beauty from unmolested development and enjoy the miles of walking and bike riding trails...truly a retreat!

While the American City of Detroit, Michigan has about 1/40th of the population of all of the country of Canada, it has about 3/5 of the amount of murders per year!!

I grew up in SW Michigan, though I haven't lived there in 30 years. Definitely a beautiful place. And don't forget that the Lake Michigan shore has sand dunes, with great shoreline places like South Haven, Saugatuk, Warren Dunes, and near and dear to my heart, Silver Lake, the only State Park open to dune buggies and ORV's in the state. I have LOTS of great memories from way back then. Love ya Michigan!
